Emergency Rescue and Life-Saving Surgery for Severely Injured Cat in Erbil

Emergency Rescue and Life-Saving Surgery for Severely Injured Cat in Erbil

The Kurdistan Animal Protection Organization received a rescue call on 2025/1/22, approximately 11 hours after an accident involving a cat near 30 Meter Road in Erbil, Kurdistan Region of Iraq. Our rescue team immediately responded and arrived at the location to assist.

Upon arrival, the team discovered that the cat had suffered a serious injury caused by a car engine fan. The cat had crawled into the engine compartment, and when the vehicle was started, the fan struck the abdominal area. As a result, the cat’s intestines were forced out of the body and were severely damaged by the impact.

The injured cat was quickly taken to surgery. During the operation, the veterinary team had to remove and resection 21 cm of the damaged intestine, which was then carefully sutured. This complex and delicate procedure was successfully performed by Dr. Bashar E. Senior.

Thanks to the swift intervention and expert care, the cat made a full recovery after 12 days of post-operative treatment and monitoring.
