KAP Organization Call for Humane Solutions instead of Killing Stray Dogs

KAP Organization Call for Humane Solutions instead of Killing Stray Dogs

On Thursday, January 23, 2025, the KAP Organization held a protest in front of the United Nations building in Erbil to voice their opposition to the killing of stray dogs in Duhok and Kirkuk. The organization called on the government to cease this practice, which they argue is being used as a solution to the increasing number of street dogs in the region. The rationale provided for this action is that these animals pose a threat to public safety. However, KAP Organization emphasized that this approach is not the proper solution. They presented scientific and ethical alternatives, notably the Catch, Neuter, Return (CNR) program, which they believe can effectively address the issue without harming the animals.

The organization also expressed its readiness to take responsibility for implementing the CNR method, provided the government offers support. During the protest, many volunteers, animal lovers, and KAPO staff members participated to amplify the voice of these voiceless creatures. Several media outlets, including Rudaw, Kurdistan 24, KNN, NRT, +964 Kurdi, SPEE Media, AVA Media, ESTA Media, WESTGA News, Kurdsat News, Kobas News, conducted interviews with KAPO staff and volunteers to gather clearer data and information regarding the protest. The goal was to raise awareness about the issue and urge the government to adopt more humane solutions to the stray dog problem in the region.
